Please see the list of health insurance plans with whom we are contracted at the bottom of this page.

Carolinas Centers for Sight is a contracted provider for a large number of health plans including Medicare, Medicaid, BCBS, VSP, EyeMed, United, Aetna, and many more.

If we are contracted with your plan, then we will file a claim with your insurance plan. You will be responsible for any co-payment or deductible that your plan applies.  Medicare Part B deductible for 2022 is $233.  If you do not have secondary insurance, you may owe co-insurance as well.  If you have a secondary, then it generally pays the 20% subject to any other deductibles the secondary may include. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan or a commercial insurance plan, co-payments vary by plan. Early in the year, many patients will have some financial responsibility to their provider until their deductibles are met. Along with copays, deductibles, and co-insurance, the “out-of-pocket” costs are increasing. Consider using a Flex Spending or Health Savings Account to cover your costs.

While we are happy to assist with your insurance questions, it is helpful for you to understand your particular coverage. We encourage you to call your insurance company or visit their website to understand your unique benefits and financial responsibility. If your insurance carrier requires a referral, then please contact your primary care physician and request a referral for Carolinas Centers for Sight.

With a medical diagnosis, your health insurance will cover the exam excluding any co-pays, deductibles, etc.. Vision plans cover routine eye examinations and offer coverage for glasses and/or contact lenses. We would be happy to verify your benefits when you book an appointment. If you are uninsured or self-pay, the exam fee is $125. Vision plans and what the patient is responsible for paying can vary greatly. We are here to guide you through your visual options and potential out-of-pocket fees. In some cases, a patient may come in for a routine vision eye exam, which would be filed under your “vision” plan. However, if your doctor uncovers a “medical” eye-related issue, this would mean we would have to file your “medical” insurance instead of your “vision” insurance. Regular eye exams are important to maintaining good eye health. They are essential to detecting vision problems.

Although laser eye surgery is considered an elective or non‑covered service, as a contracted provider for most insurance companies, there are some savings available. Please contact Carolinas Centers for Sight at (843) 664-9393 for a verification of your benefits.

Ultimately, you are responsible to ensure your doctor is paid for their service to you. Daily, we struggle for compensation from insurance companies and are extremely grateful for our patients who take a proactive stance with an unpaid claim. Insurance companies are supported by you and promptly respond to your inquiries.

Our policy is to collect at the date of service. All non-covered surgical services may be due prior to the procedure. The hospital or surgical facility also requires lens implant payments in advance of the surgery. Carolinas Centers for Sight accepts most major credit cards including VISA, MC, Discover, American Express, Debit cards, personal checks, and cash. Another payment alternative we offer for our patients is Care Credit. Click here to apply.
